The end of my gap year..

I’m finally at the end of my gap year. On Monday I will come back to my home and I will see my family and friends again. It was the best experience of my life. As I remember, from the first day I was helping anyone who needed. With my friends we made a lot of things for people that didn’t have so much money to pay a good education or even worst, didn’t have a place to stay or a house without roof. For this reason, our first three months of volunteers we apply on construct houses and school and if it was possible, a little church. We start with the construction work of houses. The person who lived there, outside the city hadn’t a standard level of lifestyle, there was horrible in some cases. So, firstly we start with the person with the worst situation and we constructed many houses but little one. Then, we follow to some houses without roof and we construct one. I remember very well when we finish, the people of there were really grateful and at night they reward us with a food called Bobotie who’s lamb meat with peach. It was delicious, it was a flavor which I never taste it, and my mouth was plenty of good food, my tongue dance inside me. It was memorable, and they accompany whit some typical music. We did much friendship with the people of this little town outside the Cape Town.
After these three months, we continue building a little school and a church. Then, we started teaching some of the basic things on math, history, physique etc.. They took very nice this education so, we started to teach more thing and we bring them to some air fresh activities to reconnect with their town and country. I remember that one night we go for a ‘’little excursion’’ and we made a campfire and we started dancing typical music from the country of each person. They go first and they show a Zulu dance because some of them were zulúes and then I dance a little of ‘’péricon’’, then a Brazilian friend made ‘’capoeira’’ and a Argentinean dance ‘’tango’’. The thing we laughed this night was incredible.

A three-day excursion

I was invited by the agency of volunteers and with my colleagues to a three-day excursion to three different places.  We will go to swim underwater on Dyer Island and watch the great white shark from a cage. The next day we will visit the animal reservation named Inverdoorn and the last day we finish the excursion going to Table Mountain, then we going to the Good Hope castle and finally a tour to Greenmarket.
At day one, we were so excited for this excursion, we wish a lot swim underwater and more with a great white shark, and it was insane and so extreme that it fascinates us. The day arrived and we were ready. We pack and we went to Gansbaai a popular fishing town to have a little breakfast. I don’t want fill all my stomach because I was too nervous about swimming with white shark so I ate a sandwich only. The bar where we took the breakfast was precarious, made of wood and with many stuff of the sea and old barrels as chair. After that, we took a boat that brought us to Dyer Island where we will go to swim underwater. The moment arrived, the five of us submerge in the water and with two instructors we went on to swim. We saw many different thing and kind of thing. A lot of fish of different colors, beautiful one with orange and black or red and black or even blue! I don’t ever saw a blue fish in my life but there it was. The water was fantastic, crystalline. We could saw also coral, sea horse, a plenty of plants, manta ray etc… All you think of is there, all of it. But, the most important thing is when we went to the cage to see the white shark. It was amazing, extraordinary. The sharks swimming really nearest us and sometimes fighting each other. It was an unforgettable experience.
At day two, we went to a safari called Inverdoorn where we watched the different type of animal

from Africa. We saw the lions with their group and we even saw a couple procreating and a group which were fighting and the guide explain to us that there were playing. We saw the giraffe, rhinos, elephant etc…. The guide lets us experimented and we get on a elephant the five of us and almost one felt.. But we saw my favorite animal doing the thing he do the best, run faster than other exciting animal. His name is the cheetah and I like it the most plus the lion.

On the last day we went at the Table Mountain. We came there using aerial cable car where we saw the entire Cape Town city. It was wonderful, that view was a onetime view. We never saw a beautiful view like that with the entire flora we could saw there and the fantastic waterfalls. It was the perfect view of the nature mix with city. The two views were opposite each other. The fresh air when we were on the top filled up all us lungs of good sensations. Then we were to the Cape Hope caste a construction built in the 17th that it remains the historical side of Cape Town. We finish this adventurist excursion going to Greenmarket a pretty place where people sold different kind of things like necklaces or bracelet, this kind of thing. And it was funny because it make remember me the ‘’ferias’’ of Uruguay because they are very similar and I felt like home with many people offering for one article and with the post and all that.

My arrival at Cape Town

When I arrived at Cape town in South Africa, my first step was already annoying. All these multicultural people walking around me in the city, there was a positive energy flying around the air. The first cab I took was simply excellent; the taxi driver was in a good mood and smiling all the time and talking to me of different news about their country. The city had a lot of tall buildings that we can see it in the centre and aro
und of them we see colorful little buildings or houses that make the city a good place to live. The fraction of the city with these houses with different colors and little bars and buildings make your imagination go away. Is all you want, a quite neighborhood with good people. I was very happy that I was there but I also miss my family and my friend a lot. I will be missing a year of be with them, the person I love the most, like my girlfriend but the thing who maintain me strong is that I will help people who needed with construction work or educational work. But it doesn't mean that I don't miss them at all. Play football with my friends and go out at nights, have a sunday lunch with my family or go to my girlfriend' house to be with her. Even if I am with other volunteers that are also my friends and in some case we are a family too. I’m with four other volunteers’ friends in a house close to the center and guess what? It is blue! We was very excited for this new adventure that was about to start and we can’t sleep at night, we stay up all the night telling funny stories and talking among us.
