I’m finally at the end of my gap year. On Monday I
will come back to my home and I will see my family and friends again. It was
the best experience of my life. As I remember, from the first day I was helping
anyone who needed. With my friends we made a lot of things for people that didn’t
have so much money to pay a good education or even worst, didn’t have a place
to stay or a house without roof. For this reason, our first three months of
volunteers we apply on construct houses and school and if it was possible, a
little church. We start with the construction work of houses. The person who
lived there, outside the city hadn’t a standard level of lifestyle, there was
horrible in some cases. So, firstly we start with the person with the worst
situation and we constructed many houses but little one. Then, we follow to
some houses without roof and we construct one. I remember very well when we
finish, the people of there were really grateful and at night they reward us
with a food called Bobotie who’s lamb meat with peach. It was delicious, it was
a flavor which I never taste it, and my mouth was plenty of good food, my tongue
dance inside me. It was memorable, and they accompany whit some typical music.
We did much friendship with the people of this little town outside the Cape
Town.
After these three months, we continue building a
little school and a church. Then, we started teaching some of the basic things
on math, history, physique etc.. They took very nice this education so, we
started to teach more thing and we bring them to some air fresh activities to reconnect
with their town and country. I remember that one night we go for a ‘’little
excursion’’ and we made a campfire and we started dancing typical music from
the country of each person. They go first and they show a Zulu dance because
some of them were zulúes and then I dance a little of ‘’péricon’’, then a Brazilian
friend made ‘’capoeira’’ and a Argentinean dance ‘’tango’’. The thing we laughed
this night was incredible.
